From the manufacturer:
Designed with advanced amateur shutterbugs in mind, the MX-2900 ZOOM offers users a wealth of advanced photographic features and controls, such as a hot shoe for an external flash and a lens barrel that accepts optional 43mm filters and 28mm wide-angle attachments. Adding to the camera’s appeal is a high-grade and attractive magnesium alloy body that mirrors the traditional look and feel of a 35mm SLR camera while showcasing the MX-2900 ZOOM’s progressive digital attributes. The MX-2900 ZOOM uses its impressive 2.3 million-pixel CCD sensor and distinctive RGB filters to capture richly colored 1,800 x 1,200 images. For an up-close feel – without compromising clarity - the MX-2900 is equipped with a special Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens (equivalent to a 35-105 mm lens on a 35 mm camera), plus a 2.5x digital telephoto mode (total 7.5x). These features, plus numerous other manual controls, make the MX-2900 ideal for dramatic close-ups, freeze-frame action shots and pristine panoramas.
The MX-2900 ZOOM enables users to adjust shutter speeds and select aperture settings while the camera’s manual mode allows for changes in white balance, exposure compensation, manual exposure, flash brightness, light metering, and continuous shooting. As a matter of convenience, all of these settings can be examined before the shot is recorded.
In addition to manual mode, the aperture-priority AE mode can be accessed in order to emphasize subjects with either F3.3 or F5.0 aperture at the wide-angle setting. The slow synchro mode of the MX-2900 ZOOM combines use of the flash with a slower shutter speed for shots that capture both the foreground subject and an evening backdrop.
Another way to expose pictures is through the camera’s light metering mode. By selecting these controls: average (an average value for the entire image is used); spot (where the exposure is optimized for the center of the image); and multi (where the camera automatically assesses the scene and selects the optimum exposure), the desired image is achieved. All of these features contribute to the production of clear, colorful images.
The MX-2900 ZOOM comes equipped with both a precision, 2-inch polysilicon color LCD monitor with 130,000 pixels and an optical viewfinder with diopter -- a great feature for those with corrective eyewear. Through the use of the LCD, the camera provides automatic playback and a digital zoom so users can zero in on areas within the picture. With multi-frame playback, nine images can be viewed, all at once, on the LCD.
Designed for long-lasting use, the MX-2900 ZOOM uses a rechargeable lithium ion battery that can take up to 250 shots when the liquid crystal display is turned off and 100 shots when powered. An AC Adapter is included with the MX-2900 ZOOM to recharge the long- life, lithium ion battery while it is in the camera. An optional Quick Charger is also available to ensure the MX-2900 ZOOM will be ready for the next picture taking opportunity.
Depending on the image compression selected -- fine, normal or basic – the MX-2900 ZOOM records 8, 17 and up to 35 JPEG images, respectively, or a 4.32MB uncompressed TIFF image on its bundled 8MB SmartMediaTM card. For computer downloads, the camera has video output and serial ports and the necessary cables are packaged along with the camera. For quicker image downloads, an optional SmartMedia card reader transfers files through a USB port at up to 12MB/second.
